Background:
Agrivoltaics (Agri-PV) represents a strategic synergy at the nexus of renewable energy, food production, and water conservation. By co-locating solar photovoltaic panels on arable land, the system enables dual land use: clean electricity generation coupled with sustainable agricultural cultivation. The shading effect of overhead or vertically mounted solar arrays alters the microclimate moderating ambient temperatures, reducing soil evapotranspiration, and buffering crops against extreme weather events.
Under the GIZ DeveloPPP Agrivoltaics initiative, high-precision, research-grade meteorological, microclimatic, soil, crop, and electrical data are required to establish scientific baselines across diverse agro-climatic zones in India.
Objectives and Tasks of the assignment:
The procured systems will establish a robust scientific data acquisition foundation across diverse agro-climatic zones in India. By capturing high-resolution, real-time datasets on crop microclimates, water balance, and PV operational efficiency, this infrastructure will improve operational oversight, enable data-driven agricultural decision-making, and generate validated evidence on co-locating solar energy generation with sustainable agricultural production.
